Jewelry caring guide

Tips for Caring Sterling Silver Jewelry:

  1. Wear It Daily: Wearing silver jewelry daily helps maintain its natural shine, as the body's oils contribute to a warm luster. However, if your bodily fluids cause silver to tarnish, it's best to avoid wearing it and opt for other materials.

  2. Remove Before Bathing: Avoid wearing silver jewelry while bathing, as water speeds up its oxidation process. Substances like bath products containing sulfur accelerate tarnishing.

  3. Stay Away from Cosmetics: Minimize contact with cosmetics like hair gel, perfume, skincare products, sulfur soap, hair dye, and chemicals, as they can diminish its luster over time.

  4. Avoid Chemicals: Prevent exposure to vinegar, bleach, correction fluid, and other chemicals. Avoid wearing silver jewelry while swimming, especially in the sea.

  5. Wear Separately: Don't wear silver jewelry alongside other precious metal or gemstone pieces to prevent scratching or damage.

  6. Air Isolation: Store silver jewelry in sealed containers to minimize exposure to air, reducing oxidation and preventing blackening. Many silver jewelry packages include these.

Restoring Tarnished Silver:

  • Silver Cloth: Use a silver cloth made of high-quality cotton with polishing powder to gently rub tarnished silver, restoring its shine.

  • Silver Dip: While not recommended often, a silver dip can directly clean tarnished silver. Submerge the jewelry for about a minute, then rinse with water and dry with a soft cloth. However, frequent use isn't advisable for both the jewelry's appearance and personal health.

  • Toothpaste Method: In the absence of a silver dip, toothpaste can be used. Apply a gel toothpaste directly to the jewelry, gently scrub with a soft toothbrush, rinse with water, and dry with a cotton cloth. This method leaves the silver looking bright and clean, similar to when it was new.
